NPR on Tuesday retracted an erroneous article claiming that Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Alito was retiring in the wake of several landmark rulings.
The original article is no longer available on the website and the link now features an editor's note.
"Earlier today we erroneously published a story saying that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was retiring. He has not announced his retirement and we have retracted the story," the note reads.
Rumors of a planned Alito retirement have circulated for years, though they have gained steam in recent months. The justice has not announced any plans to retire.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court released a string of landmark decisions on campaign finance law, transgender participation in sports, and birthright citizenship.
