Apple announces price increases on MacBook and iPad, citing higher memory and storage costs

Apple announced on Thursday that it would be increasing prices on MacBooks and iPads. 

The price hikes are the company's first formal attempt to pass on higher memory and storage costs on to customers, CNBC reported

Tim Cook, Apple CEO, told the Wall Street Journal last week that the company could no longer avoid passing on to customers the increased costs from the spike in memory prices, which is tied to the boom in artificial intelligence. 

Here are the latest price changes from Apple:

  • MacBook Neo entry $599 increasing to $699
  • MacBook Air 512GB $1099 increasing to $1299
  • MacBook Pro 1T $1699 increasing to $1999
  • iPad Air 128GB $599 increasing to $749
  • iPad Pro Wifi 256GB $999 increasing to $1199
