President Donald Trump plans to attend a fireworks display at Mt. Rushmore to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.
South Dakota GOP Gov. Larry Rhoden confirmed Trump's plans in a statement to The Hill, saying "[t]ogether, we will throw the biggest birthday party ever for our nation and celebrate America’s legacy of freedom, liberty, and justice for all."
The event is part of the America 250 celebrations to mark the upcoming quarter-millennium anniversary of the founding of the nation. Mt. Rushmore is one of the most prominent monuments in the United States and features the carved heads of four U.S. presidents along a cliff side.
