A swimmer was bitten on the foot Friday in a suspected shark attack at a Long Island, N.Y., beach.

The incident occurred at Jones Beach State Park, which is on a barrier island in New York's Nassau County, about 30 miles from Manhattan.

There have been multiple reported shark sightings in recent days at other Long Island and New York City beaches including Rockaway, according to the Associated Press

After the incident Friday, an ambulance took the victim to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and lifeguards cleared the beach for about an hour, then allowed only waist-deep swimming and wading, officials said.
